Exciting opportunity to join a well-established company who are undergoing a large digital transformation.

The in-house IT team has around 100 members, with the applications support team being at around 5. Reporting into the Head of Support Services, you will be responsible for the support of the core application portfolio across the group.

The application support portfolio ranges from HR and payroll systems, distribution software, manufacturing as well as learning and development.

You will have 3 direct reports and also have a dotted line from the CRM team.

This is a hands on role, with the lead by doing management style suiting the company best. To give you an idea it will be about a 60/40, management/ support split.

We are looking for pragmatic Application Support Managers who understand the challenges presented within complex business structures.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage application portfolio to maintain aggressive system uptime targets, whilst ensuring systems are upgraded, patched and maintained in a proactive and timely manner.
  • Deliver on agreed incident SLA’s and ensure all the support issues are fully understood, managed and resolved.
  • Proactively target root cause to minimise the volume of issues and improve the customer experience of applications.
  • Work closely with internal IT development and Infrastructure teams to improve system performance, reliability and usability.
  • Manage 3rd party suppliers, chairing supplier reviews and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Manage the workload of the team to support BAU support processes whilst acting as SME’s on important and strategic projects.
  • Identify opportunities to drive value and improve the performance of the existing and future software base.
  • Drive a collaborative culture in the team and across IT support teams
  • Work closely with other application support teams who manage the retail and ERP systems.
Key skills and experience:
  • Well proven experience in an Application Support Management role
  • ITIL practitioner
  • MS SQL
  • 3rd party software vendor management
  • On prem and cloud application support
  • Team management & development experience
  • Experience in managing a complex asset portfolio with respect to risk, cost control, governance, compliance, and performance objectives.
  • Confidence in making recommendations to effectively influence change
  • The capability to analyse data and identify trends.
